Just an Update

Hello Everyone,

Sorry no pictures this time. The Fowler house has been busy with two working parents and a little baby. Ryan had his 4 month checkup yesterday. He is now 14 pounds 6 ounces and 24 1/2 inches long. Can you believe that our little five pound peanut is that big! We got the okay to give him cereal. He is not quite sure about the spoon. The first bite or two he is all about it, then he just gets ticked off and wants his bottle back. He is getting more alert each day. He wants to see what you are doing all of the time. Oh, and he is showing his temper. If he does not get his way, he screams, LOUDLY! Pretty good spunk for a 4 month old. Off course, you only say this if he is not yelling in YOUR ear. Both grandma's have been able to get him to laugh outloud again, both by playing with Reynold's Wrap. Who needs expensive toys.

Okay....the screamer just woke up.

Until Next Time......

Almost Four Months Old

Hello All,

Ryan is amazing! I was telling Matt last night how conflicted I am. Let me explain....I am so excited by all the new things he is doing and at the same time sad that he has grown. It goes by so fast you feel like you are missing something. Going back to work is also conflicted (don't worry Hallmark people, I am NOT going anywhere). I love my job and the people I work with. Leaving him for the day is not that bad (Mommy needs a break too) but leaving him for several days in a row is awful! I know those trips are far and between but it is hard. It is also a weird feeling. I was gone for three days, missed him sooooo much but at the same time, had a very successful business trip. Insane!

Let me catch you up on what our little man is doing. The other night he laughed out loud for the first time. I mean, really laughed. For a period of time. Usually, we get a chuckle. This was laughing. He made me laugh so hard, I cried. You want to know what he found so hysterical? Mommy was cleaning out the refrigerator. Yep, that is it. Now, you think, he must be laughing it up all the time. Of course not! Have not heard that silly laugh again. Kids!

He is starting to teeth, so he is drooling everywhere and trying as hard as he can to put both fists in his mouth. He loves to hold on to a blanket. We took him trick or treating in Davidson on Halloween. This was his first time in the big boy stroller. We wanted him to see everyhing. Of course, we got there right when it was time to eat. (We always get somewhere right when it is time to eat, no matter how hard we try not too) He screamed his head off until I fed him, then he spit up all over his costume! After that, it was great. He just stared at everyone in amazement until he fell asleep.

We have been taking him out a little more. He loves to look at people. Matt and I took him to Cracker Barrel the other week. His eyes were going everywhere. I tried to give him his bottle (because of course, it was time to eat). He drank it so slow while looking at everyone. Then, when people stopped to talk to him, he would grin real big and all the milk would fall out of his mouth!

Well, I have to get him up and out. I have a long day ahead of me. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Until Next Time

Not Meant to be a Moo Cow

Hello All,

I took Ryan for his 3 month pictures yesterday at The Picture People. Just a little backstory......Picture People will do Halloween pictures of your little one. I really wanted to have Ryan's picture taken, but all of the costumes I had found were too big or too expensive. I am sorry, I can not justify $50 on a costume he will wear for about two seconds. I had resolved myself to the fact that this would not be the year of the costume. Well, then I discovered Once Upon a Child. For those who do not know it, it is a consignment shop for kids (Wendy and Kristina: I know you LOVE it). Anyway, I found two costumes there (a Moo Cow and a Dragon). Cost? $3.95 each. Crazy huh? So, here I am so excited. Well, as you have seen posted below in the previous post, Ryan is less than thrilled. I will post the dragon here in a sec. Flash to Sunday afternoon at The Picture People. We planned his naps and bottles all day so he would be in a good mood. First, I put him in his 3 mos. outfit. He wrinkles up his brow and looks at the photographer like, "who the heck are you and what do you think you are doing with THAT thing?" Of course, he would smile as soon as she took the camera away. Long story short, those pics came out pretty decent. Then we put the costume on. He loses it! I mean tears and all. I walked him around, I sang our song (yes, he made me sing You Are My Sunshine in public). As soon as I put him down, loses it! Sooooooo, another long story short, there will be no professional pics of the Moo Cow. Now, we are going to the church Fall Festival on Sunday and plan to go to a Halloween parade in Davidson on Halloween. Who knows what the results will be. Maybe if no cameras are involved he will be okay. I am excited about the parade. I have been wanting to go for years, but could not get Matt to go. Now, we have Ryan and he is all about it. All the children and pets in town dress up and walk up and down Main Street. Cute! Having a kid gets you into all of the cool places.

Having So Much Fun at 3 Months

Hello All,

Sorry it has been so long. It has been crazy with going back to work. Ryan is growing so much. As of the other day, he is 12 pounds 12 ounces and is 24 1/2 inches long. Crazy! He has gained two pounds in just a month! Today I packed up all the clothes that no longer fit him. I can not believe that he wore preemie clothes when he came home from the hospital.

He is getting more and more fun everyday. He loves to laugh, kick and play. In the past couple of weeks he has starting noticing so many things. He loves to watch football and Sports Center. Funny!

September 28th was Baby Dedication at church. I was so proud of him. He really enjoyed watcing Haven play the piano. We had to stand on the podium in front of the choir. He looked like he was going to cry, so I put him up on my shoulder. He fell asleep! Slept all the way through church.

I went back to work a couple of weeks ago. I am enjoying getting back into the swing of things. I do miss him during the day. We have so much fun when Matt and I get home from work. He is the most fun in the morning. When we go to get him he is all smiles.

I have added several pictures on this post and the one after. I hope you enjoy the updated photos. Check out his Halloween costume.

Hello Everyone!

Hello All,

Well, it is 10:30 and I am drinking coffee, have The Wiggles on TV and watching Ryan grin and kick in his bouncy seat. He is getting so big. Hard to believe that he will be three months old soon. Hard to believe I go back to work in a little over a week. I have such mixed feelings about it. I miss work, I miss the people I work with, I miss adult conversation. I will so miss spending my days with Ryan. I think that all will work out just fine (that is my head talking). He will be staying with Matt's mom during the day. Some days, I will take him to see my mom. He is actually having a sleep over with my mom and dad tonight. The break will be nice, but my stomach is in knots. I will miss him so much. He still is not sleeping through the night, though I think he has been so cranky because he is more hungry than I thought. He took over six ounces this morning!

On Sunday Ryan is being dedicated at church. It should be a wonderful day. He has the cutest little white and blue outfit to wear (from his Aunt Jen). I will post pictures.

Well, I am off to get him to take a nap so I can take a shower. Oh the joys of motherhood.

Until Next Time

Hello Again From the Beach!

As you can see, Ryan is still unimpressed. That's okay. We are enjoying watching him be unimpressed.

Beach Trip 2008

Hello Everyone,

We arrived at the beach this afternoon. The ride down was uneventful. He slept most of the way. Funny though, when I listen to talk radio, he cries! I had to have music on while he was awake! Below are the pictures of his first time on the beach. He was not quite sure what to think. If you can be shy/bashful at 2 months of age, I think he was that. I will post more as the week progresses!

Two Months Old!!!!

Hi Everyone!

Can you believe that two months has passed already! Ryan is getting so big. He had his two month check up this past Monday. He weighs 10 pounds 6 ounces and is 22 1/2 inches long. For his age, he falls in the 25th percentile. Yes, he is little! The Dr. said you never know how big he can get, it all depends on puberty. He could have a huge growing spurt or not. He took the shots okay. They gave him three shots very fast in his thigh. Matt and I were ready to start bawling. Well, I am ashamed to say, we laughed at our poor little man. Okay, Matt laughed first, I hit him for laughing and then I started. It was so pitiful, all you could do was laugh. He screamed one loud yelp and then silence. However, his mouth was still wide open, just no sound was coming out. It was the most pitiful thing you ever saw. Of course, Mommy swooped in and saved the day. He slept most of the day. He ran a little temp. but not too bad.

The best news so far, Ryan is attempting to sleep through the night. We have had three nights in a row where he slept from 9 until around 6. Last night, he got up one time, at 2 am. He is doing great, except he does not like to nap during the day. He cat naps and then is so tired. Oh Well, we are working through it.

We leave on Saturday for our late summer beach trip. Matt and I go every year this time with his family. I tell you, taking a newborn to the beach is like a troop movement. We have three tubs full of stuff already. Before we had the baby, Matt and I would laugh at all of the stuff WE took. We are learning to be a little more organized. I have attached pictures of Ryan trying on his bathing suit. It should be lots of fun. I will let you know how it goes.

Until Next Time,
Stacie

Pictures!!!!

Hello Everyone,

Pictures, pictures and more pictures. I am finally getting the hang of uploading pictures from the Kodak CD I made at the CVS. I know this should be the easiest thing in the world! Whatever. My mind is mush from no sleep! I hope you enjoy these. We have spent the week at my in-laws lake condo on Lake Norman. Of course, every time we take Mr. Ryan outside, he goes to sleep. He has missed many a walk to the lake, boat and the walking trails. Oh well. I do have to say, that harness thing I carry him in is HOT, HOT, HOT. Those are not meant to be used in 90 degree weather.

Ryan hit a milestone last night. He slept from 9:30(or so) until 4 am. I consider that great. Of course, prior to going to sleep, he screamed his head off for about an hour! Who knows what was wrong with him. I think his tummy hurt, I think he was tired, I think he was hungry, I think....heck if I know. I did have him out all day yesterday. I was feeling very cooped up. I had my first experience of a poopy diaper in public. Let me tell you, it was interesting. I was at L.A. Weight Loss signing up for their weight loss program (uh yea, I am still in maternity pants AND not liking it!!!) Anyway, he started howling. I took him out of his car seat and smelled IT. Well, the lady I was working with told me to change him on her desk. I was like "are you sure about that"? She was.....oh goodness! Well, I managed to clean him up and not get poop on her desk. Then I thought, oh crap....DO NOT pee on this poor woman's desk! He did not. Would that not have been the most awful thing in the world???? We survived it! After that we went to Babies R Us to buy supplies, he slept through that. Next to the Sports Authority with Daddy (he met us to eat) then to eat with Daddy. That was the second melt down. Ryan was hungry too. I then learned the art of feeding Baby bottle in a booth while Mommy also attempts to eat. Let's just say Ryan was more satisfied than Mommy. After THAT, I took him for a walk in downtown Davidson. We went to the post office and to the CVS to print MORE pictures. He was an angel. Of course, once we got home, he howled and howled. Maybe we did too much....ya think?

Until Next Time (and another adventure)

Still Here

Hello Everyone,

Sorry it has been so long. Ryan is getting so big. We barely recognize him from when he was first born. Actually, Matt's grandmother was looking at pictures the other day. The first ones were from the hospital and the last few were from the other day. She asked me who "that" baby was. Too funny. Of course she also asked me who the lady was holding the baby. (It was her). She does have early stages of dementia, so we just go along. Great-Grandmother (GG) does love holding and talking to Ryan. She talks ALOT, so we let her hold Ryan. :) He eats it up. Ryan is now smiling on his own (not just gas). He is only wearing his hip harness at night. We have an appt. this afternoon to see where we go from here. Funny story (at least I think so). The Dr. told me about a baby that had to be weaned off the harness. He would wake himself up at night, kicking his legs. I should not have laughed. My son is doing the same thing during his naps. I have figured out, if I swaddle him up real good in a blanket, he sleeps better. Who knew. Mommy hates the thing and Ryan wants to wear it all the time. Just shows how it hurt us more than it hurt him!

Our days right now are spent playing peek a boo, singing songs, going for walks and learning about the outside. He was not thrilled about the rain today. Oh Well! We have been going out and about more. My friend Dave came to visit us from DC. We took Ryan on his first restaurant visit. Matt was nervous to let him go, but no worries. He slept the entire time! You get alot of attention when you have a baby with you. Yesterday Ryan and I took my Best Friend Aimee to lunch for her birthday. Slept through that too! I know, I know, those days will come to an end!

I am adding two pictures from race day on Saturday. Daddy was excited about Ryan's racing suit. Ryan was just like "whatever", where is my bottle and pacifier. Unfortunately, JR. did not win, but at least the Busch boy did not either!

More Pictures.....

Hello Everyone,

Things are chugging along here at the Fowler house. Ryan is on a pretty good three hour schedule. He wakes up screaming his head off. I am just getting used to sleeping in 2 1/2 hour increments. Oh well! The harness for his hip is still on. They will do a ultrasound on Tues. to let us know how much longer it has to be on there. Not sure if I wrote about this before. Everything is running together at this point. His left hip is out of socket. The harness keeps his legs up to stabilize the hip. The last two visits it has been stabilized, so hopefully he will only have to wear it for a few more weeks. He is okay with it, most of the time. I HATE it. It is so hard to hold him close and cuddle. In the long run, it will be the best thing for him. I hope you enjoy the updated pictures. He has gained about 2 pounds and grown over 2 inches since birth. He loves to eat!

So So Tired!

Hello All,

Little Ryan Matthew Fowler was born July 7th, 2008 at 9:24 am. He weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and was 17 1/2 inches long. When we left the hospital he was 5 pds. 8 oz. and at the Dr. yesterday he had gained back 2 ounces. I hope to send pictures soon on email. I am having problems with my email and all of my email addresses have disappeared. I will work on this soon. He is doing really well. Last night was rough. He was up from 1 am until 5 am. That was brutal. He is perfect! He looks like his Dad. We did find a small problem with his hip. It may be dislocated. We will be going to a orthopedic Dr. sometime this week. This is due to him being breech and the family history. If his hip will not stay in position he will have to wear a harness for a few months. Nothing to be overly concerned about. When you catch it early, it is very easy to correct.

Here are a few pictures. I have not uploaded many.....so sleepy!

July 7, 2008.........

Hello Everyone,

We have an official delivery date......7/7/08. The past few days have been kind of crazy. I had a regular Dr. Appt. this past Thursday. I had an ultrasound to see if Ryan had turned, but he is still showing in the breech position. Also, they discovered at the appt. that my amniotic fluid had gone pretty low. Sooooooooo to make a long story (day) short, after 7 hours at the Dr. and hospital, they sent me home. On Friday, the fetal specialist told us that the baby is very healthy, but the fluid is lower than he would like. He wanted us to deliver within the next week. We met with the OB this morning and we are scheduled to go in for surgery on Monday, the 7th at 7:30 am. We have to be there at 6 am. We should be up in our room by lunch time. We are delivering at CMC-Northeast in Concord.

Wish us luck!

Is it hot out there or is it just me?

Hello All,

Okay, it is the first of June. The first of June is usually low 80's? The last time we saw 100 degree heat at the first of June was, no lie, over 100 HUNDRED years ago!!!!! Seriously! I was so proud that I had not had swollen feet, hands, etc. Well, not anymore! My shoes barely fit on my feet! All the Dr. said was to keep out of the heat, rest and drink lots of water. No really??? Goodness!

Anyway.....We are actually doing okay. Still going to the hospital twice a week for testing and the Dr. once a week for checkups. So far so good. He is very active and they send me home everytime. Thank Goodness!

Last Sunday was my baby shower. It was hosted by my Mom, Mother-In-Law, Aimee, Debbie and Stephanie. It was wonderful having all those who love us in one room. We had a great day. We were so blessed to receive so many nice gifts. We have just about everything we need. Our friends and family have spoiled us. Below are some pictures. Check out the diaper cake (and no you do not eat it). My Mother and Father In Law made it at 6 AM the day of the party. He thought they were going to bake something.

This past Saturday we set up Ryan's room. It looks so good! Of course, I am biased. I spent just about all weekend washing, folding and putting away his clothes and blankets. Matt and I just go sit in his room and look at everything. It is getting so real. I am adding pictures of his room. Notice the little Tarheel touches. Daddy's little man, already!

Thank you to everyone who has thought of us, prayed for us and given us such wonderful gifts! This baby is so loved already. Our adventure is just beginning!

31 Weeks.....

Hello All,

Just to update you on all the baby madness. At my last appt. my amniotic fluid was showing in the low normal range. That has not changed. Another test has shown the blood flow through the umbilical cord is in the high/normal range. I know...uh? that is what I have been saying. At this point all is well with the baby. He is kicking and moving like he should. The dr. is having me go to the hospital twice a week for a non-stress test. They strap me up to a monitor and check his fetal movements in relation to his heart beat. I have been twice and he is fine. On Friday we are meeting with a fetal specialist for a second opionion on the fluid issue. As the Dr. tells me, they are over treating me to be on the safe side, in case either of these tests fall to the high/unnormal or low/unnormal range. Worst case scenario, we take him out early. Best case, they monitor me up until he decides to be born. Everyone around us has been great, we are on ALOT of prayer lists. Thank you for that. Matt and I pray everyday for our little man. We know he will be fine, stubborn but fine. :)

On to more positive things.....My baby shower is this coming Sunday. Very excited for that. We decided to go ahead and fix his room up. Selling the house is probably not in our near future with the market the way it is. So the next few weeks will be busy. We still have a few more baby classes to go to. We went to our first one a couple of weeks ago. Matt was a pro at diapering, CPR and swaddling the baby. Of course, it was a doll! We will let him keep his confidence!

I am getting bigger and bigger. Matt does not understand how I can keep growing! Well, we have 9 weeks to go. It is getting very uncomfortable. I literally roll out of my van. Oh yea....got a mommy-mobile. After driving the Ford Taurus for eight years, I ordered the Town and Country van. I love it! It will be so much easier with the baby....oh yea and work too! They do give it to me to work. :) Work is going great. Trying to get it all tied up in the next two months so I can take time off. That is a little stressful, but everyone is being very supportive.

Please keep us in your prayers. God gave us this little miracle and we are already so proud of him. He is strong and will get through this.

Until next time....

29 Weeks

Hello Everyone,

Matt and I went yesterday to get a 3D ultrasound. If you are unfamiliar with this, it is an ultrasound that really shows the picture of the baby. You can see all of his features. Well, our child was not ready for his close up. As of right now, he is breech. His legs and feet are up over the entire front of his body, covering his face. On top of that, his hands are covering his face. Then the tech told us that my amniotic fluid was on the low normal side. They would like to have the fluid at 10 and mine is at 7/8 range. We have scheduled a follow up ultrasound in two weeks. The Dr. wants me to count his kicks. When I am sitting/resting he should give me about 10 kicks in two hours. He has NO problem with that. I left the appt. pretty worried. We went back to the Dr. this morning. She told me not to worry. The fluid could change. We will just monitor it. I will still worry, cause, well, I just will. :) He weighs a little over 2 pounds. I passed my glucose test.

So, sorry I have no pictures. He is a stubborn one. Already!

Until Next Time....

26 Weeks and Counting......

Hello All,

I had my 26 week appointment yesterday. All is well. The nurse said I had a very pretty stomach. Now that is a new one. Too bad she was not referring to a great "six pack". Oh well, you take what you can. I am measuring right where I should be at this point. His heartbeat was good. He kicked the wand when the nurse put it on my stomach. Matt felt him kick for the first time last week. That was fun. We both cried. So emotional (hormonal)! Just now I was talking to him and he kicked so hard my stomach moved! I love it! I am getting tired again. The heartburn has been AWFUL! They gave me a prescription and it has helped. I actually was able to sleep last night.

Now that my stomach is growing I have more and more people (strangers)approaching me. A man in Wal-mart told me I was very pretty. Creepy or Sweet, you choose. I think he was being nice.

I hope everyone is doing well. Keep in touch. Let me know if you are actually reading this!!!!

Till next time

Here is what everyone has been asking for...PICTURES!

Hi Everyone,

The one thing everyone keeps asking for is pictures of the bump! I am going to add some at the end of this blog.

Matt and I had a wonderful time this past weekend in Marco Island, Florida!! As I had posted earlier, I won an award for overall performance. The best part was that three of my friends from work also won. We spent our days sunning, drinking (virgin Pina Colada's for me), going to the spa, sea shelling and of course eating! The weather was perfect. It was neat for Matt to meet all of the people I talk about all of the time. He was very impressed with everyone. I am lucky to work with such a great group of people. Matt's biggest stress the whole time was having access to a t.v. to watch the basketball games! Fortunately for all involved, he was able to watch UNC kick Louisville butt!

Baby Ryan did very well on the trip. The flight down he balled up in a ball. Not to happy with the change in air pressure. On the way back he did fine, I was miserable. We had to wait on the runway for 2 hrs. for them to fix a mechanical problem and for take off. I was tired, sunburned, cranky and swollen. Plus I had to deal with Matt being sunburned, cranky and impatient.

I am getting kicked more and more every day. Matt has not been able to feel him yet. Any day now.

I hope you enjoy the pics!
